Birding & Boat Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Uganda’s Number 1 tourist destination: Set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda’s masterpiece, Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) is undeniably breathtaking. Sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes, and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for more than 606 species of birds, ten primate species including chimpanzees, and over 95 mammal species, including lion, elephant, hippo, leopard, buffalo, hyena, warthog, and various antelope.
DAY 1: Entebbe – QENP
From Entebbe or Kampala (optional overnight depending on arrival time into the country), we depart for QENP. On our way, we will pass the Ugandan equator where you can take pictures and shop for a souvenir. After lunch in Mbarar, we continue our journey southwest and head for the Western Rift Valley.
Arrive at your overnight lodge – dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: QENP Activity
The day starts early with a game drive to the northern parts of the park. This is an area great for game viewing and offers more to birders (with over 606 bird species recorded). Enjoy a game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queen’s Mile in search of animals like: lions, elephants, cape buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, mangoose, waterbucks, kobs, and, if you’re lucky the leopard.
After lunch, transfer to enjoy a unique two-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This launch cruise gives you a great opportunity for photography, bird watching and game viewing at close range. The Kazinga Channel is believed to host the highest population of hippos on the continent.
Return to your lodge in game drive style thereafter arriving in time to enjoy an African sunset – dinner and overnight.
Day 3: QENP – Entebbe
After breakfast at leisure, depart for Kampala allowing us an en-route lunch break at Gardens Restaurant in Fort Portal before proceeding to arrive at Entebbe International Airport in time for your return flight home.
Optional: while in Fort Portal, visit the Toro King’s palace as well as have an opportunity to swing by the local market for a feel of the local people’s way of life. This area is also dotted with crater lakes that offer breathtaking views of Mother Africa.
