9 Day Trip to Western Uganda

Here’s a 9-day tour package from 23rd to 30th December, starting from Kampala and covering Fort Portal to see Mabere Ga Nyina Mwiru, Semuliki National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kyambura Gorge, Lake Mburo, and returning to Kampala with mid-range accommodations:

Day 1: 23 December – Kampala to Fort Portal

Morning: Depart from Kampala early in the morning, heading to Fort Portal via Mubende. The journey takes about 5-6 hours, passing through lush landscapes and tea plantations.

Afternoon: Arrive in Fort Portal and check into a mid-range lodge. After lunch, visit the scenic Mabere Ga Nyina Mwiru caves to explore the fascinating limestone formations and learn about their cultural significance.

Evening: Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2: 24 December – Fort Portal Exploration & Transfer to Semuliki

Morning: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge and explore Fort Portal town, known for its beautiful scenery and local culture.

Late Morning: Depart for Semuliki National Park, approximately 2 hours from Fort Portal.

Afternoon:. In the afternoon, visit the famous Sempaya Hot Springs and enjoy a guided nature walk to spot some of the park’s unique bird species and primates.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Accommodation: Mid-range lodge near Semuliki National Park.

Day 3: 25 December – Wildlife and Birding in Semuliki National Park

Morning: After an early breakfast, take a morning game drive in Semuliki to observe some of the park’s wildlife, including forest elephants, buffalo, and various bird species.

Afternoon: Picnic lunch in the park followed by a guided walk in the lush forest to experience the biodiversity of the area.

Evening: Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 4: 26 December – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Morning: After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (around 3 hours). Enjoy scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains along the way.

Afternoon: Arrive at the lodge, check in, and have lunch. Go for an afternoon game drive in search of lions, elephants, and other wildlife.

Evening: Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: 27 December – Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Afternoon: Enjoy lunch at the lodge, followed by a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.

Day 6: 28 December – Kyambura Gorge for a nature walk.

Morning: After breakfast, drive to Kyambura Gorge for an exciting nature walk and bird watching experience. Discover the rich ecosystem of this “Valley of Apes” with its diverse primate species.

Afternoon: Return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy some leisure time, possibly relaxing by the lodge’s pool or engaging in a local community visit.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: 29 Morning: Departure from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Emburara Farm Lodge;
Start your day with an early breakfast at your lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to Mbarara. The journey takes approximately 3-4 hours (170 km), depending on stops along the way.

 Arrival at Emburara Farm Lodge:
Upon reaching Emburara Farm Lodge, you’ll be welcomed with refreshing drinks and a brief orientation of the lodge. Check into your room and take a moment to relax and soak in the serene ambiance of the farm lodge, surrounded by Ankole long-horned cattle and verdant pastures.

Afternoon: Farm Activities
After lunch, immerse yourself in a range of authentic farm activities:

• Cattle Ranching Experience: Join local herdsmen as they tend to the Ankole long-horned cattle, renowned for their majestic horns and cultural significance. Learn about their care, milking, and the importance of these cattle in Ankole traditions.
• And an overnight stay at the lodge.
• Morning: Gardening and Local Food Preparation: Engage in organic gardening, harvesting vegetables, or participating in traditional food preparation using fresh farm produce.
• Nature Walks: Take a guided nature walk around the farm, exploring its biodiversity, indigenous plants, and sustainable farming practices.

Day 8:30 December, Departure from Emburara to Lake Mburo via Igongo cultural center

Breakfast and departure to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive will take around 5-6 hours with stops for photography and a lunch break en route.

Pass by the Igongo cultural center to learn more of ankole culture.

Afternoon: Arrive at Lake Mburo and check into a mid-range lodge. Go for a late afternoon game drive to see zebras, antelopes, and other savannah wildlife.

Evening: Dinner and overnight stay at Arcadia Lodges.

Accommodation: Mid-range lodge in Lake Mburo National Park.

Day 9: 31 December – Morning Safari and Return to Kampala

Morning: After breakfast, enjoy a guided nature walk or a morning boat ride on Lake Mburo to observe birdlife and hippos.

Late Morning: Return to the lodge, check out, and begin the drive back to Kampala.

Afternoon: Lunch en route and arrival in Kampala in the late afternoon or early evening.

End of the Tour.
